Bristol Beer Factory Clear Head

Overall

78%

Released in collaboration with men's mental health charity Talk Club, Clear Head is a low-alcohol "Mental Health Movement IPA". A force for good.

Brewed by west country stalwarts Bristol Beer Factory, using the popular Mosaic and Citra hops, it's has a typically lemony, lightly malted aroma. It pours beautifully with plenty of visible carbonation and an impressive, bright white head forming on top of the cloudy, amber liquid. The addition of lactose is skilful, not only helping strengthen the head and provide a body often absent in non-alcoholic beers, but also laying a very subtle sweetness on an otherwise sharp and dry profile. Notes of grapefruit and sharp stone-fruit, along with a continued mild malt give the drink depth and full-flavour. It finishes sharply and dryly without any clawing sweetness that's so often the trade-off when added sugars are introduced to enhance body.

The balance of texture and flavour in Clear Head is very well done. It may not poses a resoundingly unique character but it is a very worthy, enjoyable non-alcoholic IPA. A force for good indeed.
